Gene Detection and Radiotherapy
Radiotherapyis an effective treatment to control and kill tumor cells. However, thistreatment can cause serious side effects, making patients suffering from greatagonies and even influencing the treatment progress. There are huge differencesin radiotherapeutic side effects for individuals. Therefore, the detection ofradiotherapeutic side effect-related gene status before starting radiotherapycan predict and prevent the risk of side effects.
The individual difference in radiotherapeuticrelated side effects is associated with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP).By evaluating the SNP of related genes, patients would be able to receiveeffective and side-effect-minimized treatments, thus to maximize treatmentefficacy and improve the survival of the patients.
Example of Genotype and Radiotherapy
E.g.,in breast cancer radiotherapy, individuals with different DNMT1 genotypes havevarious risks of fibrosis caused by radiotherapy. Patients with GG genotypehave a lower probability of developing radioactive skin fibrosis than patientswith AA/AG.
Cancer Res Treat. 2017;49(2):464-472
Gene | Genotype | Cancer Type | Radiotherapy Related Side Effects |
TGFB1 | GG/GA/AA | proseate cancer | Patients with G allele may have an increased risk of getting astrointestinal and genitourinary system related side effects. |
AA/AG/GG | head and neck cancer, breast cancer | Patients with A allele may have an increased risk of radiodermatitis.
GSTP1 | AA/AG/GG | breast cancer | Patients with G allele may have an increased risk of radiation- induced skin fibrosis compared to patients with AA genotype. |
HSPB1 | CC/CG/GG | NSCLC | Patients with C allele may have an increased risk of radiodermatitis compared to patients with GC/GG genotype. |
NSCLC | Patients with C allele may have an increased risk of Esophagitis compared to patients with GC/GG genotype.
LC | There are not direct association with Radiation pneumonitis and lung injury. |
Detection Item
This kit detects 61 SNP loci in 41 genes relatedto radiothepeutic side effects based on next generation sequencing, including:XRCCl,TNFa,TXNRD2,ERCC2,TGFBl,VEGF,
DNMTl,TP53,XRCC3,LIN28B,MTHFR,PONl,GSTPl,ATM,NOS2,APEXl,MLHl,IL8,CD44,LIG4,ILlA,CYP2C8,IL4,NEILl,NBN,APC,NFKBIA,DEAD,Tpa,RAD51,NFE2L2,GSTAl,MGMT,TDG,GSK3β,FSHR,MY03B,TGFBR2,KDM3B,HSPBland TXNThedetection results can be used to predict the efficacy and side effects of radiotherapy, thus, help the clinicians to select suitable treatments.
